My son Ellington Peet's artist friend Ben Briggance was creating an installation / happening at which he wanted to have me & some long-time colleagues of mine do a live concert. I put together this group of Los Angeles luminaries & also included Ellington for some young blood. Ben designed the installation so that the audience could freely walk on raised pathways around & into the center of the musicians who were positioned in a circle in the space creating an interactive experience for both the performers & the listeners. I provided a loosely formed directed improvisation which featured various groupings of the quintet. The space was completely covered in thick pressed felt, except for the band's area being dark bark fragments, and the room's focus was an imposing large sculpture / chandelier hanging in the center providing a soft light.
The concert was one uninterrupted piece, presented here in its entirety, but divided into 3 segments.
Patchwork is a sonic journey from floating space to hard charging grooves, with various crazy detours along the way brought to you by some of LA's master improvisers who were really FEELING IT AS ONE that night! Enjoy! -wp
